ATABONG BEACH: WEALTH IN ABANDONMENT

The saying that Akwa Ibom State is naturally endowed back-to-back is true when one is opportuned to move its length and breadth.

The traditional marriage of my friend, Courage Mbon, recently took me to Atabong, a fishing community in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. While waiting for the marriage rites to commence, a few curious friends and I decided to visit the popular Atabong Beach Market, a stone throw from the venue of the event. I was touched by what I saw. I saw untapped revenue generating resources. I saw wealth in abandonment. I saw nature being rejected and I saw happiness on the faces of the people, though earnestly in need of government presence.

Atabong Beach Market was constructed when Chief Peter Linus Umoh served Okobo Local Government Area as Chairman of Council. The project was commissioned by Obong Akpan Isemin, the then Governor of Akwa Ibom State, on the 13th day of April, 1993.

What has been the story of this market and its environ 25 years after? Much revenues have been generated from this popular market. Much more can be generated, even when our nation's economy is dwindling. Akwa Ibom State can boast of artisans with high level of craftsmanship in boat making, divers and swimmers that can compete anywhere in the world. Akwa Ibom State, through its relevant Ministries, can have more if only it will take advantage of its inherent and untapped resources.

CHURCH SERVICE ! ORDINATION

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel was among the dignitaries that graced the occasion of the Ordination and recognition service of the Chairman Divine
Mandate Campaign organisation and former Governor of the State, His Excellency Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga and wife Mosunsola - Olufunmilola Nkanga held today Sunday 4th November 2018 at Qua Iboe Church Nigeria, Ewet Offot Township Superintendency, No 112 Nwaniba road, Uyo.

THE WAR BETWEEN APC AND THE AKWA IBOM PEOPLE (2) By Uwemedimoh Umanah

The All Progressives Congress (APC),  is at war with the the Akwa Ibom people for refusing to "welcome" and imbibe the tenets of an imported imperialistic political party in the state. The APC is a product of contradictions; a group of selfish, greedy, and self- serving politicians whose ultimate aim in politics is material aggrandizement and primitive accumulation of capital.

Professor Barry Hampe, a Political Scientist and one of the most reputable scholars in party politics puts paid on the features of a party that is people- oriented and ideology- driven: "A good political party, if such were possible, would have a clear political philosophy, consistent with governance in a democratic republic. It would attract members by the strength of that philosophy, rather than by modifying it to pander to special interest groups. Its members in office would focus on doing the people's work, including making compromise with members of other parties when necessary so that the perfect does not become the enemy of the good. It would stand for maximum personal liberty and economic reality. It would at all times strive to ensure that government is never any larger than it needs to be".

Flowing from this theoretical premise, it is crystal clear that the APC has failed Nigeria and Nigerians. The party was built on a cracked foundation and on a false substratum.  Its leadership component understands nothing other than deepening the extractive and accumulative essence of the Nigerian state.

The APC led federal government has demonstrated to the whole world that he is unrepentantly alien to democratic norms, culture and practice. It directed the DSS invasion of the Akwa Ibom Governor's  lodge to satisfy the exploitative instinct of its appendages allies in the state.  The President has been unstatesmanly in dealing with perceived political foes- particularly those he believed have contributed in one way or the other to his numerous electoral failures since 1999 or his ouster as Head of State in 1985. The case of Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Col. Sambo Dasuki, Nnamdi Kanu, among others is familiar to Nigerians. It has been reported that President Buhari has flagrantly ignored court orders granting bail to Colonel Dasuki. Where then is the independence of the Judiciary, which is the beauty and fragrance of democracy? Is this APC's model of democracy?

Instead of constituting a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, in the South African model, build confidence among the people and strengthen the institutional component of the state, the APC government is going about selective justice, annihilating only PDP members and sympathizers. The former PDP spokesman Olisa Metuh and former PDP Chairman Haliru Bello, and recently,  former Governor of Ekiti state,  Ayo Fayose, are examples.

In Akwa Ibom State, the APC-led federal government has planted surrogates; men with questionable character and unquenched lust  for power, as allies to entrench their extractive and subversive goals.
For instance, the choice of Nsima Ekere by the APC is to complete the reign of terror in Akwa Ibom and deepen primitive accumulation. Pundits have argued that Ekere’s blueprint is not only to decimate the population of Akwa Ibom through intimidation and killings as exemplified recently in his party’s congresses, but ultimately to “donate” Akwa Ibom and its resources to the Hausa/ Fulani imperialists and the Yoruba Capitalists under Bola Tinubu.

It has been posited that a little above 1000 Akwa Ibom people were openly and remotely murdered through 'the razor' of killers, kidnappers and armed gangs during the reign of terror in Akwa Ibom State. Although this figure appears huge and seemingly speculative to the writer,  truth is, it was the black era in Akwa Ibom history from which the state hasn't recovered.

It begs to ask, who the pivots of APC in Akwa Ibom State are. It's either those who were disgraced from office for  their excessive accumulative instinct, those who wished they could live from the treasury of the state , those who had lost touch with their people at the grassroots and needed a platform to re-launch their career, and those whose overbearing quest for power put them on a collision course with  the political system.

Another very glaring feature of these political gladiators is that they represent an "unholy alliance," "amalgam of opposites"- those who hitherto had one personality or ego crisis with each other, but engaged in an extra-ordinarily fragile union, to vent their personal misgivings and anger against the political system, mainly because they either could not win at the PDP primaries or were not lost out in the Fiefdom of the immediate- past administration.

On April 11, 2015, the All Progressives Congress was roundly rejected by the people of the state in the ballots. While the ruling PDP scored over 996,079 votes, the APC had a paltry 89,865 votes. By possible extrapolation, the APC was roundly defeated and secured less than ten percent of the total votes at the polls.

The people of Akwa Ibom prefer the PDP and  the Divine Mandate as represented by Governor Udom Emmanuel.  As I’d noted in another treatise, God chooses a leader  and gives to every society the kind and genre of leader it deserves. I also used an example of Saul who misrepresented God's benevolence and chose to play - god. That was why when the glory of God departed from Saul, he began to have some degree of insanity which ensued till the day he died (1 Samuel 18: 10). Does this not justify the commonly used axiom that "he whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad"?

The people realized that leadership is the soul and ultimate driver of development and needed a leader who could deepen the infrastructural revolution in the state through the creation of jobs, amelioration of poverty and reduction of social inequalities hence the emergence of Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as fourth democratically elected governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The Divine Mandate is a social contract between Governor Emmanuel and the people of Akwa Ibom State, whose resolve is unruffled, irrespective of the antics , intrigues and propaganda of the opposition APC in the state, which has deployed a conspiracy theory aimed at upstaging the status quo in the state. Their alliance with the foreign power elite was perfected  with the engagement of surrogates for the purpose of smearing the character of the purveyor of the people’s mandate, Governor Udom Emmanuel.

APC's current battle with the Akwa Ibom people is geared towards desecrating and demonizing the Governor and ultimately destroying the goodwill which he has garnered ; an indisputable asset for the political, social and economic emancipation of the state.

The APC is fully aware that, with the degree  of goodwill at the disposal of Governor Emmanuel and the proportion  of support by both  'the productive elders' and the youth of the state (optimum population), the governor can always have his way in enacting and executing good policies for the wellbeing of the people.

A political party whose ideology is antithetical to justice and equity is to say the least, anti- people . The APC failed the litmus test when in 2015, it vehemently opposed  zoning- an egalitarian political culture which the Akwa Ibom people enthroned in the state, and crowned it with the search, adoption and support for the tuskbearer of the Divine Mandate, Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The people of Akwa Ibom see  APC's incursion as typified in the impending verbal and online debate as a battle to save the soul of the state  from the "spirits of doom"- the fallen angels.

Winston Churchill also amplified the importance of resolve, political will and timely intervention to avoid unanticipated consequences by asserting that, “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

The battle between APC and the Akwa Ibom people is, "the battle of life and death." It is a battle to safeguard the God-given resources of the state from external incursion ( Tinubu, Buhari, Oshiomhole, etc, and internal collaborators).  It is the battle for the soul of Akwa Ibom, which necessarily must be resisted by the people,  with their votes!

AKHA2019: EKET NEEDS DAVID LAWRENCE FOR EFFECTIVE SERVICE DELIVERY

I rarely delve into political discourse, particularly because of how people in this side of the clime reason when it comes to politics. People who know nothing about the political dynamics often blow hot and shout from the roof top, and as a result, amplify their ignorance. A few individuals who know the art of governance and its workings speak and argue intelligibly.
That being said, I have read several pieces about the Member representing Eket State Constituency, Hon. David Lawrence. While others tend to see nothing good about his representation, others have applauded his efforts. This still boils down to the understanding of governance. The former set kicks against his second term bid, while the latter holds it in good faith. I will want to state emphatically here, that Hon. David Lawrence’s second term bid is a necessity.
The popular axiom that an empty bottle makes much noise, holds true in Hon. Lawrence’s case. He is a silent achiever. A strategists who, like the state chief executive , Gov. Udom Emmanuel. knows how to partner with investors to bring development to the people. This is service, the essentiality of human existence.
Service to humanity is touching lives. It is focusing on people- oriented projects. It is knowing what will work well for the people and going after it.
The problem with most people is that they think governance is “catch, kill and eat”. This is very funny. They look for immediate gratifications at the expense of a long term growth and progress.
This is where David Lawrence has been called names. But the truth is, the lawmaker is using his business ideas and strategy to bring projects that will be useful and beneficial to Eket people, even after his stewardship. He sees the future, and works towards bringing the future the people will be proud of closer.
A case in point is the Eket Modern Market Project. A look at the prototype of the market will convince you that in the nearest future. Eket will become an international business hub. Sons and daughters of Eket will be engaged in good businesses and be a blessing to their families, and by extension Eket community. It is on record that the lawmaker was given a guarantee of 30% interest rate, which he also facilitated the sale of the shops, on completion of the projects. He understands the terms and conditions agreed with the Chinese firm, and is the only person that will push the project to completion.
Is this the kind of project we should abandon? Many of this type of project initiated by this silent achiever abound. That is why I said that Hon. Lawrence’s reelection is a necessity.
Many constituents have failed to listen to him. One of them argued that Hon. Lawrence has not proposed any bill in the house since his assumption of office as a lawmaker. This is quite laughable. If I want to sound funny, how many of the laws so far made have translated into food on your table? Bills upon bills have been proposed and many passed into laws by lawmakers. How has it affected your life positively. This does not in any imply that the job of lawmaking is of no essence. But it is more beneficial to involve in projects that will benefit the people than engage in making laws that a common man may not know anything about.
The only way that the projects that the Eket lawmaker have initiated so far, to be completed is to support his reelection. Those people- oriented projects are investment the entire Akwa Ibom will be proud of on completion. Eket will be spotted on the global commercial map because of the ingenuity and creativity of Hon. Lawrence.
It is time to drop sentiments. It is time to reason logically and see the future from today. See the progress and development packaged in these projects for Eket people, and support Hon. David Lawrence for second term. It is more than a necessity.

DEDUCTION OF 6.7BN OF AKWA IBOM STATE ALLOCATION BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT...Nsma Ekere's hypocritical Silence

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, while receiving a Presidential aspirant under the People's Democratic Party, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki(SAN), and a delegation of his campaign team at Government House Uyo,raised alarm over the unconstitutional deduction of 6.7Bn from monthly allocations to the state in the last two months and non payment of derivation funds by the Federal Government.

Following this announcement by the Governor, one would've expected and hoped that indigenes of the state in positions of authority in the APC would speak up against such ill treatment towards Akwa Ibom and her people  and ask questions of the federal government as to why this illegal deduction was made.

As usual, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere; an Akwa Ibomite, for some really selfish reasons,  has choosen to keep quiet about this injustice being meted out on his state just to remain in the good books of the Federal government to the detriment of his people; the same people he wants to govern in 2019.
Akwa Ibom state is currently the largest oil producing state in Nigeria and as such deserves every bit of the 13% derivation allocated to it( and even more) by virtue of its contribution to the nation's economy. This was a battle fought long and hard by Obong Victor Attah in the infamous onshore/offshore oil dichotomy against President Obasanjo. This is the same Obong Attah, the NDDC boss addresses as an elder statesman, professes admiration and respect, sings praises of his strides. Why is he not speaking up to protect Obong Attah's legacy?

It is obvious that Nsima Ekere is probably more interested in receiving gun and dagger gifts at political rallies, sponsoring media attacks on the person of Gov. Udom Emmanuel and Akwa Ibom State Government and forcing his way into the Hilltop Mansion.
Akwa Ibomites, behold your 2019 hopeful.

It's now common knowledge that the global crude oil price has increased from $38 to $78 from per barrel, and as such, Akwa Ibom state should be getting an increase in allocation not a deduction.

What's the rationale for such unconstitutional deduction?

Could it be punishment punishment on the PDP following defections of principal members of the APC to the PDP?

Politics!

It would be recalled that prior to the Ekiti Gubernatorial Elections, the APC-led federal government deliberately starved the entire country of funds by failing to remit the appropriate  amount to the national coffers, so they could defeat Fayose and the PDP.

The APC-led government has upped its ante to tactically frustrate the developmental plans of Governor Udom Emmanuel  and other PDP governors with these incessant and illegal deductions,  for them to fall short of people's expectations against 2019.

Governor Udom Emmanuel is committed to the  industrialisation and development of our dear state and will not be deterred by any factor.

God bless Akwa Ibom State

Making his position known, he said he had never left the Peoples Democratic Party, saying he has always being a party man and ready to support the party to attain any political height.

The AmazingGrace 2019 Series (chapter 3)

Just as Aristotle had described man as a gregarious animal that exists interdependently with each other, same way nation states exist and operate in interdependence. Meaning that not even bearing the title of a major world power can make a nation state an Island. Hence, irrespective of the economic, political or military might of a nation, it must have some sides of dependence.

As a matter of fact, the idea of colonialism was birthed by the dependency needs of the major world powers. Britain and other early European powers for instance depended on slaves from the red indies first, and later, Africa to drive their plantations. The slave trade history is of course common knowledge. Even after the break of the industrial revolution in Britain in the 18th century, it still depended on Africa for raw materials to feed its industries. A primary reason for its reversed interest in the slave trade business, even though it fronted religion and humanitarian grounds. So that was a leading world economic power depending of Africa that was yet to produce one independent state.

It is this interdependency that makes for the existence of the international community which has no geographical structure, but simply an organised non-physical structure where nations interact in pursuit of their national interests. Scholars have given that for a guaranteed success of this pursuit, a nation must have: 1. Economic viability - to have its citizens fed to satisfaction so as to have their cooperation and support; 2. Military prowess - to withstand threats from contemporaries or situations that may hinder the pursuit and achievement of their interests; and 3. Good leadership, especially the head of government.

Enter Etinan Federal Constituency and the 2019 puzzle... let us liken the Federal House of Representatives to the international scene with 360 nation states. As much as we know that the primary reason for their assemblage is to work together towards strengthening the laws of the nation, but to the constituencies which elected them, they are not expected to return only with volumes of papers showing how many new laws they were able to make or how many of the old ones they were able to reform. There must be evident records of how much of the government programmes for developmental purposes they were able to channel back home. Same way we see the assemblage of nations in the international scene as primarily to foster world peace and security, but to the individual nations, the said peace and security is only important because the system must be conducive enough for them to successfully pursue and protect whatever their interests are.

Therefore, for the interest(s) of a constituency to be guaranteed, whoever they choose to send as representative must poses qualities similar to the economic viability, military strength and good leadership required of a nation in the case of the international system. These qualities are what the Etinan Federal Constituency electorates have been searching for in those seeking their mandate to represent them in the lower arm of the National Assembly come 2019. And it appears they have found someone already in possession of these qualities - someone not scarcely known, but well known by all within and beyond the federal constituency and state. With the way the name of Onofiok Akpan Luke is heavily seated on the lips of the electorates, one would not be wrong drawing the conclusion that the search has finally ended satisfactorily.

But why Onofiok Luke? Yes, ordinarily, this question, though simple in appearance, should be a profound one, but goodly, the man in question had proactively made it simpler with his antecedents. His records are there and glaringly so. His leadership record from early youthful days till date will hastily tick him right past the good leadership test, just as it is required of a representative to earn him the confidence and support of his constituents. Eight out of every ten randomly selected indigenes of Etinan and Nsit Ibom will sure have attestations to this in the affirmative; and the remaining two will most likely not have anything negative to say, except a confession of either not encountering him closely or not hearing much about him; and if time permits further enquiries, they are also most likely to confess being diasporans of Akwa Ibom origin. As for Nsit Ubium, his immediate constituency, even the diasporans will know him, because they must have been directly or indirectly touched by him through the mandate he was given which is due for expiration before this time next year.

Onofiok Luke's representative strength can be likened to the military strength of a super power in world affairs. But unlike the latter, his strength is not to fight wars, or have the capacity to bark and bite. However, his own strength will serve Etinan Federal Constituency the functions of penetrating the power valves at the national level, subdue oppressing forces and place Etinan FC at the fore of developmental programmes of the government.

Finally, the question of Onofiok Luke's economic viability should best be answered by Nsit Ubium people who are  his present day constituents. The question should be about how he has managed the resources of the constituency that came through his office. Here, the satisfaction of the constituents as regards how well they have been fed, as well as the littered developmental projects that came to life through his office will provide the best response. And like I earlier scripted, ten out of every randomly selected ten persons will have something evident either in themselves or a relative of theirs to show as proof.

AKS WORKS COMMISSIONER REITERATES GOVERNMENT'S COMMITMENT TO QUALITY DELIVERY

The current administration in Akwa Ibom State made industrialisation one of its cardinal goals. Governor Udom Emmanuel has not hidden his desire to transform the state from a Civil Service driven one to that which will boast of several industries with the private sector as the highest employer of labour.

To achievement  industrialization, necessary infrastructures must be in place to drive it.  With access road being one of the major drivers of industrialization, Governor Udom Emmanuel has been in the business of building roads across the State to prepare the ground for massive industrialization.

The Ministry of Works Akwa Ibom State under the Honourable Commissioner  Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen has continued to work tirelessly to interpret the infrastructural vision of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Mr Inyangeyen consistently has been on the road to ensure that roads done meet global standard and quality.

The current administration in Akwa Ibom State has not hidden its total commitment to quality service delivery. It has become a norm that under the supervision of the Works Commissioner Mr Inyangeyen it is either you deliver the job to standard or you risk reconstructing what has been done at your own expense.

Several contractors who have attempted to cut corners on job given to them have had themselves to blame because with Mr Inyangeyen it is either you do it well or lose the job.

On Wednesday 1 August, 2018 on a routine inspection the Works Commissioner Mr Inyangeyen arrived the 3.3km Idua Road in Eket handled by Limeck Development Link Limited to see the extent of work done and the quality of it. There had been several complains that the work ongoing does not meet the standard of the work done by the current administration. The Works Commissioner had to physical go to the project site to inspect the work.

Disappointedly the drainage system was poorly done and  Mr Inyangeyen in his characteristic nature rejected the work done and expressed sadness that such shoddy job could be done by a contractor who already knows that under this dispensation it is zero tolerance for substandard work.

Mr Inyangeyen ordered that the drains be reconstructed to meet the standard acceptable by the ministry of Works Akwa Ibom State or the contractor risk the job being revoked.

It is not new in Akwa Ibom State under this administration to see contracts revoked when contractors fail to show capacity. The government would rather put a project on hold than have it haphazardly done. It is this stand that has driven the quality of roads that have been so delivered in Akwa Ibom State in the last 3years and running.

The Works commissioner still on his routine inspection tour on the same day visited the already completed  road on Edem Udo street in Eket which had  a failed portion. Mr Inyangeyen again ordered the the portion be corrected and work done to match up with the rest. He stated that nothing short of quality finishing will be accepted on that portion of the road.

In building an infrastructure viable Akwa Ibom State to drive industrialization the mantra of quality job delivery  as driven this current administration. It has become cheaper to do the right thing than to fraudulently save cost with substandard job delivery but risk losing the job or redoing it at you own cost. Of a certain the Akwa Ibom State government will not accept any substandard job. Mr Inyangeyen will say " we are building roads that will stand the test of time not just wasting the Commonwealth that belongs to the people of Akwa Ibom State and since I don't demand any bribe from contractors for job they are given, they must as a matter of obligation deliver quality roads for use for the people of Akwa Ibom State". Like a contractor told his worker on one of the construction sites "do it well oh Ephraim Inyang is coming" the Works Commissioner will always come around so there is hardly any way  any selfish contractor can have his way.
